Tuesday April 7th, 2009 Fiji: Digicel, proud sponsor of Fiji rugby, today toured with the Digicel Fiji 7’s heroes as they shared their victory as they travelled through Nadi where thousands of excited fans came out to show their support.

The heroes received a fitting welcome by the fans who came out in force to greet the team after their exceptional win at the Hong Kong sevens tournament. The Digicel truck carried the team and coach through the crowds as part of a procession of Digicel vehicles. In true carnival style, FBCL’s Today FM were part of the entourage playing music and encouraging all the fans to come for pictures and autographs.

The two-hour tour began from the Volualevu roundabout, through Namaka, Martintar, Navoci and Namotomoto villages before making its way to Nadi Main Street and coming to a stop at the Digicel store. Traffic came to a standstill as the massive crowds circled around the Digicel 7s heroes on board.

Children from the Nadi Airport Primary, Namaka Public and Mount St. Mary’s were just some of the schools who took a break from their studies to come greet the team with their teachers.

“It is absolutely fantastic to see the boys after their triumphant win. The atmosphere is very exciting and positive – it is a real boost for the people and the country to have the Digicel 7s team here among their supporters”, said one fan of the parade.

An outdoor broadcast was held at the Digicel store on Nadi Main Street in anticipation of the team’s arrival which added to the street party atmosphere as the parade came to a stop.

The Digicel staff working at the head office were not to be forgotten as the Digicel Fiji 7s team and management visited the office to meet some of their biggest fans of all for the finale of their whirlwind tour.

The Digicel 7s team and management will join their respective families this evening after their visit to Nagado Village in Sabeto, home of captain Vereniki Goneva.
