The Susu Mamas Hotline 7200 MAMA (7200 6262) will give all Mothers and Mothers to be in Papua New Guinea, with access to a Digicel mobile phone, the opportunity to receive free infant health and feeding support services. Susu Mamas will provide this information targeted towards pregnant women and Mothers via the Susu Mamas Hotline with a professional nurse answering the calls 24 hours a day. The hotline will be operational from tomorrow Friday May 9, 2008.

“On behalf of Susu Mamas I would like to thank Digicel for making it possible to set up such an essential service. PNG has one of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the world. Now with this new mobile service women, even in the more rural areas of PNG, will have free access to information which will help them give birth safely and nurture healthy babies. Susu Mamas will now be able to reach out to areas we could never manage to reach before impacting the lives of those most in need of these essential services.” said the Vice President, Colleen Westaway, who was presented the Digicel phone to be used for the new toll free service.

Since launching, Digicel has used mobile services to support grass roots communities through activities such as the street vendor programme, the BAHA HIV Toll Free Hotline 7200 BAHA (7200 2242) providing free access to HIV support services and from today the Susu Mamas Toll Free Hotline 7200 MAMA (7200 6262).
